Insanity Workout: Week 7 Check In

When people ask “What is Insanity?” I’ve had no words. Till now.

Can you believe I only have a week and a half left of this craziness? After today’s Max Cardio Conditioning and Cardio Abs, I only have 8 real workouts, not counting rest days, the last Fit Test and Max Recovery. Wow. I’m so proud of myself for sticking with every single workout. So far, anyway. Don’t want to jinx myself this close to the finish line and pull a muscle or overstretch my groin or something. Shaun T has a pathological fear of overstretching your groin. It’s kind of contagious.

Progress so far has been excellent. Last week I made it through a good 90% of Max Interval Plyo. Plyo has been my Waterloo both months. All that jumping, those pushups? It’s crazy hard. Face-plant in the carpet hard. But somehow I stuck with it. Max Interval Circuit is the workout I’m best at. Max Cardio Conditioning is doable, but I don’t love it. I miss my water breaks.

I’ve been so immersed in these workouts that I forget that some people don’t even know what Insanity is. You can go to YouTube to get the sales pitch but here’s what I’ve learned from my 7 weeks with Shaun T.

Insanity is … the 2nd hardest exercise you’ll ever do. (The first, of course, being removal of your sweaty sports bra after you do Insanity.

Insanity is …  elation because you’ve finished your workout … quickly followed by despair when realize you still have Cardio Abs.

Insanity is … the gurgle of water in your stomach during floor sprints.

Insanity is … another sweaty white girl names Arielle? How many is that now?

Insanity is …  promising yourself that your Results & Recovery drink can be a cocktail. Gatorade? More like Chardonnay-torade.

Insanity is … feeling so good during your workout that when Shaun T calls out 5 more seconds, you squeeze out a few more reps.

Insanity is … feeling so wrecked during your workout that when Shaun T calls out 5 more seconds, you say, “eh, close enough.”

Insanity is … being too sore to hover over a public restroom toilet and having to paper the seat instead.

Insanity is … giving sweaty high fives to the people in the video because they can totally see you.

Insanity is … irrational hate for that girl Tonya, who Shaun T calls The Machine.

Insanity is  … irrational love for Shaun T, no matter what you whimpered into your towel during Max Plyo that time.

Insanity is … a willingness to dig deeper, and finding to your astonishment that you can go deeper still.

What about you? Do you know what Insanity is? I’d love to hear your thoughts on the matter in the comments below.

And if you’re looking for another way to get your heart rate up, there’s plenty of suspense and romance in Murder on the First Day of Christmas. It’s available on Kindle and Nook, and now in Paperback.
